Liftinstituut can now support manufacturers of lifts and their components and functions with product certification for a broader range of regions worldwide. The certification organisation has recently been accredited by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) as a Lift Certification Body (LCB). This accreditation authorises Liftinstituut to operate within the scope of ISO 8100-20, ISO 8100-21, ISO 8100-22 and ISO 8100-23.

In Europe, Liftinstituut operates as a Notified Body, while in North America it carries out certification activities as an AECO. The Lift Certification Body concept is a relatively recent development within the international certification landscape. The LCB accreditation adds an additional certification route, enabling Liftinstituut to support manufacturers who aim to introduce lift products in regions where lift safety legislation is based on ISO standards.

Lift Certification Body certification

Certification by a Lift Certification Body is relevant in situations where lift products do not fully comply with the prescriptive requirements of ISO 8100-1 and ISO 8100-2. These standards must be applied in full when they are legally required in a country or region. Deviations from prescriptive requirements can make certification under those standards more complex.

The LCB certification route provides a complementary approach by allowing manufacturers to demonstrate that a deviating design or technical solution achieves an equivalent level of safety to that intended by the objectives of the standard. This approach supports the certification of innovative lift concepts and safety components while maintaining the required safety level.

Combined support for global markets

Liftinstituut can support manufacturers all around the world through a combined certification approach. As a Notified Body, it provides certification for the European market; as an AECO, for the North American market; and as a Lift Certification Body, for a broader range of regions in the world. While the legal frameworks differ between regions, there is significant technical overlap, allowing for an efficient and coordinated certification process.

Scope of the ANAB accreditation
ANAB has officially accredited Liftinstituut as a Lift Certification Body (LCB). Liftinstituut is permitted to operate within the following scope:

  • ISO 8100-20/-21/-22: define the requirements for product certification that complement the prescriptive standards ISO 8100-1/-2.
  • ISO 8100-23: describes the requirements that Liftinstituut fulfills as an accredited Lift Certification Body

The LCB standards provide a complementary route for certifying products that deviate from ISO 8100-1/-2 while maintaining an equivalent level of safety. Where ISO 8100-1/-2 are accepted, ISO 8100-20/-21/-22/-23 should also be accepted.
