| New ASME A17.7/CSA B44.7 set standard for performance-based safety |
|
In June 2007 the standards ASME A17.1 and the CSA B44 were equalized. From that moment on ANSI could, together with the America Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), developa more intelligent way how design should meet safety standards. The motto is Safety First at all times! But what if product design cannot meet the standard? Then there should be a possibility to deviate from the standard without safety compromises. This new approach is now registered in ASME A17.7 and the CSA B44.7.
When product design cannot meet the ASMEA17.1/CSAB44 then a risk assessment can provide deviations that meet the same safety level, Aso called Performance based safety. These deviations must be inspected by an AECO. When an AECO certifies the product, you can be assured full safety is guaranteed. This new approach gives manufacturers more freedom of design and gives them opportunities to produce in a more economical way. With this new standard ANSI fulfills the wishes of the industry in a competitive market. Read more at http://www.ansi.org/
